Sugar Cube Igloo

Supplies

7-inch diameter cardboard circle

Mortar (2 egg white mixed with cups confectioners sugar)

Sugar

Small trees, penguins, flags, fluff and anything else you want to decorate with.

How To Make It

1. Start by laying a base row of sugar cubes around cardboard circle, leaving space for the entrance.

2. Using mortar, add subsequent layers of cubes, one row at a time, decreasing the circumference gradually as you go. Apply the mortar to the top cubes, not to those already in place. Be sure to work alternately left and right from the entrance toward the back of the igloo and stagger the cubes the way a builder lays bricks.

3. Build a total of 10 layers, stopping halfway through the construction to let the igloo dry.

4. Make the arch and roof separately, working on a flat surface. When they are dry, glue them in place.

5. Allow the igloo to dry completely, then sprinkle with sugar.

6. Add decorations around your igloo. Polar bears, penguins, whales, seals, ice, trees, sleigh, fishing rod, etc.

Snowman Bottle

Fill an empty, clear water bottle with white crepe paper or tissue paper. Replace the top. Cut or gouge out a hole in a styrofoam ball so that the top of the bottle will fit snugly inside. Add a little hot glue, then stick the ball onto the bottle. Cut a hat, mouth, and buttons from black felt. Cut a carrot nose from orange felt. Glue these on as well as two "wiggly" eyes onto the styrofoam ball. Cut out a scarf from red or blue felt. Tie around the neck of the bottle and fringe the ends. If desired, add arms made of brown pipecleaners or real twigs. The pipecleaners can either be glued on, or a tiny hole can be punched in each side and the pipecleaners or twigs inserted.

Hot Chocolate Mix

3 cups powdered milk
1/2 cup cocoa
3/4 cup sugar
Dash of salt

Sift the ingredients into a large bowl. Pack the mix into an airtight container.

To make hot chocolate for 1

4 tablespoons Hot Chocolate Mix
8 ounces boiling water
Marshmallows or whipped cream

Place the Hot Chocolate Mix into a mug. Pour in the boiling water. Stir until the Chocolate mix is dissolved. Garnish with marshmallows or whipped cream.

Recipe:

1 cup of butter

5 cups flour
1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 cup molasses, do NOT use Blackstrap

1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 Tbs. Ginger

1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. cloves
2 Tbs. vinegar

Cream butter with sugar and stir in egg and molasses, and vinegar and beat well. Sift all dry ingredients. Combine dry ingredients with molasses mixture and mix until well blended.. Chill for 3 hours or overnight. Roll out on a floured surface and cut into desired shapes. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes, or until done.
